After a long shift and 2 hours of sleep, I decided to take the backroads home. I didn’t bring a good camera because I didn’t expect to go home this way but I needed to decompress. Twelve years ago, I worked near Pinnacles National Monument and would take this way home if I got off shift early enough to drive in the light. It was the straightest way from point A to point B but at least 1/2 hour longer than the freeway. Driving through at sunset, I was guaranteed to see bobcat, coyote, deer, hawks or owls. Sure, I might have to stop because someone was running their sheep herd up the middle of the road but it was worth every delay.
Today, I wasn’t happy with the photos from my phone but the drive was worth it. A taste of nature that the interstate doesn’t provide.
