We planned a big hike to explore Kaiser Meadow but everything changed when we saw that the water was like glass. Ranger surprised us when he jumped into the canoe and laid down exactly where he was supposed to be; centered on the keel. We paddled across Shaver Lake to a quiet beach on the far side. There were some large rocks that we thought would make a good fishing spot. We were right; the trout were huge. Swimming back and forth in the crystal clear water at our feet. Swimming back and forth, right by our lines without even a nibble on our worms.
Our afternoon was spent hiking and exploring a closed forest service campground; scoping out a spot for a future trip.
